** This workshop is intended for those postdoctoral fellows seeking career opportunities within academia. **

In the academic world of universities and research institutes, comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CVs), as well as concise and compelling bios and profiles, are essential job search tools. This practical, hands-on workshop for Postdoctoral Fellows will explore the differences between resumes and CVs, with a specific focus on the expected elements in an academic CV. Different types of professional profiles and bios will also be examined; profiles or bios are often required for conference presentations, funding proposals, consulting contracts, social media accounts, websites, and publications, Through samples, case examples, peer review, and individual coaching, learn what works and what doesn't for CVs, profiles, and bios. Supported by facilitators, in the afternoon participants will begin to compile and organize their CV of relevant academic accomplishments and create sample bios/profiles as templates for future use. Leave equipped to effectively maintain your CV and to customize bios and profiles for specific professional purposes.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will:

  • Examine how CVs are uniquely different from resumes
  • Be introduced to basic CV components, styles, and structures
  • Recognize elements of successful and compelling CVs
  • Explore case examples and critically examine their own CVs

Prerequisites:

Prepare for this workshop by compiling a "master CV" that lists all your publications, presentations, teaching/work experience, professional affiliations, licenses/certifications, fellowships, and research grants.
