Western University’s Sam Katz Community Health and Aging Research Unit invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Associate in Health Studies. A PhD in gerontology, health studies, communication sciences or a relevant discipline is required at the time of appointment. The position is available effective June 1, 2022 (alternative start date may be negotiated) and will be for an initial period of one year with a strong potential to renewal. The Sam Katz Community Health and Aging Research Unit is an endowed and Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) funded cross sector transdisciplinary research unit. Its aim is to identify ways to enable positive and sustained aging, and to maximize the positive collective abilities, resilience and resourcefulness of communities as a whole.

The Postdoctoral Associate will work with an interdisciplinary team of scholars and engage in research projects related to Be EPIC, a person-centered communication training for health care workers on the frontline.

The Postdoctoral Associate will be involved in helping manage projects related to implementing and testing a virtual reality version of Be EPIC, working with research and community collaborators, mentoring research assistants, leading data collection and project management activities, conducting quantitative and/or qualitative analyses, writing/collaborating on academic journal articles, and preparing reports and presentations for funders and knowledge users, including non-academic audiences. The Postdoctoral Associate will support a healthy workplace that embraces equity, diversity, and inclusion, and complies with all applicable health and safety, and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of communication, dementia, and person-centered care
  • Demonstrated experience with conversational analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct quantitative and/or qualitative analysis, including the use of SPSS and NVivo
  • Excellent written and oral communication in English, with an emerging publication record
  • Excellent project management skills and organizational skills
  • A genuine desire to have an impact using research
