Postdoctoral Fellowship in Patient-Oriented Research in Health Economics

A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of British Columbia (UBC) ‐ in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The successful applicant will become a member of the Collaboration for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE)—an academic research group whose mission is to improve health‐care related outcomes through the application of the best in research, education and practice enhancement strategies. To find out more about the CORE group, please see our website: https://core.ubc.ca.

Patient-Oriented Research (POR) in health care refers to research informed by full and active patient involvement in all aspects of the research. POR is rapidly becoming the gold standard and constitutes an opportunity for the development of an exciting program of research in health economics and health services.

The successful fellow will mainly work on a project that investigates physicians and caregivers preferences for treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy in children, funded by the USA’s National Institute of Health. This project is a great opportunity to work with Canadian and American research centers and the successful candidate will have several opportunities to explore health systems in the two countries. The project requires the development of choice experiment, which included the survey design, data collection, data analysis and dissemination. Depending on the candidate’s interests and abilities, there will also be opportunities to be involved in qualitative data collection and analysis for ongoing projects on multidisciplinary care in BC, transition to biosimilars and health priorities in Northern BC

Applicants will have a PhD in health economics, health services research, health policy, epidemiology or another discipline related to economic/policy evaluation, with some previous experience and interests in POR and qualitative and/or mixed-methods research in health economics.  The successful applicant will be responsible for health economics research related to the ongoing project on preferences for treatment pediatric drug-related epilepsy. The Fellow will have the opportunity to be mentored by and collaborate with leading researchers at UBC, work with patients, stakeholders at the British Columbia Ministry of Health, and clinical partners, to mentor junior trainees, and contribute to teaching.

Preferred start date is as soon as possible but is negotiable. Please send a curriculum vitae, a cover letter describing your research experience, a statement of your research interests, and the contact information for three referees via email to:
