We invite applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellowship starting Fall 2021 (or as soon as a qualified applicant is selected) with the INTERACT project, co-led by Yan Kestens (Université de Montréal), Meghan Winters (Simon Fraser University) and Daniel Fuller (Memorial University of Newfoundland). The position is a one-year appointment.
INTERACT is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and aims to evaluate the impact of urban interventions on health and health inequalities.
Primary Responsibilities
Your responsibilities and duties in the position will be:
1. Modelling and analysing cohort data in relation to grant objective
2. Develop, analyse, write, and submit manuscripts for academic journals.
3. Assist in project related tasks, including preparing reports and presentations for various stakeholder groups, participation in meetings and team activities, contributions to data cleaning decisions, documentation and analysis, support for ethics applications, development of grant proposals for health research and evaluation funders
4. Assist faculty supervisor in guiding graduate students’ research
5. Collaborate with team members to initiate new projects
You will be expected to submit 3+ manuscripts for publication within the first year. The fellow will be embedded within local research/academic lab.
Priority research areas
- Candidate will focus on one or more of these priority research areas:
- Analysis of the impact of COVID-19 on mobility and health using large scale GPS and accelerometer data
- Analysis of changes to the urban environment using spatio-temporal statistical modelling approaches.
- Equity analysis of COVID-19 and urban environmental change
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in epidemiology, public health, geography, computer science, health sciences or equivalent. Applicants who do not have a completed Ph.D. at the time of application must include a letter from their Department Chair specifying the date of their dissertation defense.
- Strong data analysis/programing skills in Python and/or R.
- Strong written skills in English, as written production will be key.
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
- Demonstrated publication record in public health or epidemiology.
- Ability to take initiative, creativity, attention to details and commitment to producing high quality work.
- Collaborative, interdisciplinary researcher with an interest to foster supportive student-led research environment
Preferred assets
- Experience with modelling approaches (difference in differences, interrupted time series, regression discontinuity).
- Strong analysis skills in GIS and spatial analysis methods
- Some knowledge of French (oral and written) preferred.
Working Conditions
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the successful candidate will work remotely, until on-site options are authorized by the university. The supervisor will ensure proper access the necessary computer infrastructure.
Term
Funding is available for 1 year, with possibility of an extension. The fellow will be expected to apply to Tri-council for postdoctoral fellowships.
Salary
50,000 CAD/yr, to be negotiated depending on experience.
