Posting Expiry

The Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a Post-doctoral Fellow or Research Associate in the field of contaminant hydrogeology or geochemistry. The principal tasks will be to aid in the interpretation of a comprehensive data set of fluid flow, aqueous and solid phase geochemistry, temperature and gas composition collected over 10 years at a mine site in Peru. The successful candidate will interpret and integrate this data, in part using reactive transport modeling, and assist a group of researchers and graduate students in the organization and authorship of papers for publication in peer-reviewed journal. The extensive dataset provides an opportunity to author many publications. There is an opportunity to contribute to other projects in the hydrogeology group.

Minimum Requirements

A Ph.D. in the field of contaminant hydrogeology, geochemistry, or related, and a record of research competence demonstrated by sustained publication in the peer-reviewed international scientific literature is required. Strong critical thinking, analytical and/or mathematical skills and experience in numerical modeling are required. The ideal candidate will be independent, self-motivated, have good oral and written communication skills, be well organized and be a team player. A one-year appointment will begin as soon as a suitable candidate has been identified; the appointment can be extended for one or more years.
