Job Description

  • Budget Title: Senior Career Planning and Development Associate (SL-3)
  • Salary: $49,000

The Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development, nationally recognized as an Exemplary Career Center by the National Career Development Association, provides comprehensive career services to students and alumni of Binghamton University including career identification and planning, internship options, job search assistance, employment opportunities, and comprehensive graduation data.

Binghamton University's Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development seeks a Senior Career Planning and Development Associate for the Enhancing Student Experience Team to guide graduate students in developing their professionalism, considering their career options and securing internship and full-time employment opportunities. The Senior Career Planning and Development Associate will provide support to the Associate Director for all career program planning and operational needs to continuously enhance the experiences of Binghamton University's domestic and international graduate students utilizing appropriate measures of program effectiveness.

Direct Student Services (40%)

  • Offer appointments and walk in career consulting for master's students, with topics covering: career exploration, mock interviews for graduate school and employment, job/internship/research search, graduate/professional school planning and application process, resume/CV creation, etc. Appointment hours offered in key locations for graduate and students.
  • Deliver creative and innovative programs and classroom presentations to meet the needs of assigned career communities, including existing International Student Career workshops and newly designed graduate student programming.

Outreach & Career Community Building (20%)

  • Each staff member in the Fleishman Center works to foster collaboration through our career community development concept focused on:
  • Conducting outreach to faculty, alumni, students, student organizations, employers, parents, and staff to enhance our wisdom and partnerships across and beyond campus.
  • Liaising and developing programs with/honoring referrals from their communities.
  • Communicating on behalf of the center and seeking out collaboration.

​This position will focus on Career Communities to impact: Graduate Students, International Students, Pharmacy School Students

  • Work to engage more international alumni to serve as mentors, internship providers, and/or employers for students.

Program Planning & Administration (35%)

  • Develop Graduate Student Career Readiness Programming
  • Oversee Mock interviewing program, Employer Mock interviews each semester and Big Interview software
  • Develop innovative programming for graduate and international student career success

General Administrative/Operational Support (5%)

  • Contribute to departmental reporting including inputting career consulting notes documenting session outcomes.
  • Participate in Fleishman staff meetings, team meetings. Will be part of the Enhancing Student Experience and one other staff work team (Marketing or Employer Team)

Requirements

  • Master's degree with 2 years of professional experience, PhD a plus
  • Familiarity with student development and counseling theories and approaches needed to serve diverse undergraduate and graduate students' career needs, including those who are international students
  • Demonstrated experience working cooperatively and collaboratively with students, employers, staff and faculty with diverse backgrounds and perspectives to ensure positive relations and career success
  • Event planning and programming experience
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Willingness to work weekends, evenings and travel as needed, particularly to meet graduate student availability
  • Possess an understanding of computer applications - must demonstrate proficiency in Work, Excel, PowerPoint and Google apps for Education
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task while meeting multiple concurrent deadlines
  • Professional and able to respond quickly to problems/ issues in an efficient manner and handle confidential matters with tact and discretion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three to five years of progressive experience in working with international students, graduate students and Pharmacy School students, preferably in higher education
  • Ability to administer and interpret MBTI, Strong and FOCUS2 results as appropriate
  • Knowledge of career services software/technology, such as: NACElink powered by Symplicity, CampusTap; Big Interview; CandidCareer; GoinGlobal; Vault, Versatile PhD, MyWorldAbroad
  • Self-starting, creative professionals with the ability to create and maintain collaborative relationships and adapt to change while handling multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Advanced knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques
