The Graduate School at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for the position of Professional Development, Assistant Program Director. This position supports the Graduate School’s Professional Development Program under the guidance of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. The program encompasses four areas of focus: Career, Teaching, Ethics, and Research. The team represents units across campus that train graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.

KEY AREAS OF FOCUS:

Professional Development Program:

  • Ensure that the Professional Development Program data systems are utilized, that the data integrity remains high, and utilize the data to assess the state of the program and suggest modifications and additions. Support the content owners with analyzing their areas, interpreting the results, and recommending modifications and additions to their specific areas.
  • Develop, support, coordinate, and conduct programming and workshops in support of the Professional Development Program such as the Lunch and Learn workshop series, 3MT, an the Integrative Dissertation Pro-Sem, including efforts related to Professional Development grants awarded to the Graduate School.
  • Develop, launch, support, and advance tools such as Academic iNDex (http://graduateschool.nd.edu/academic-index/), Qualtrics, and Slate for students, postdocs, faculty, and staff that support the Professional Development Program’s initiatives.
  • Maintain active partnerships with the individual Professional Development team members, including the GSU representatives.

Graduate School partnerships:

  • Partner with Grad Student Life to support, and advance initiatives to foster the graduate and postdoctoral communities outside of their academic endeavors. This includes participating on the Graduate Student Life team led by Student Affairs, reviewing Graduate Life grant applications, and supporting Graduate Student Appreciation Week.
  • Build community and provide support for graduate students with Select Fellowships. Serve as the facilitator for graduate students with the Office of Disability Services.

Professional Development awards program:

  • Administer this program, which provides travel grants to students. This includes administering the online application, verifying eligibility of applicants, providing eligible applicants to the colleges for award decisions, notifying applicants of the award decisions, administering the award processes and payments, and monitoring the overall program for budget compliance and stewardship support.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. is required.
  • Applicants must have strong data management and analysis/assessment skills; strong computer skills; presentation, communication, and technical writing aptitude; basic financial acumen; training and development experience; problem solving sills; the ability to work independently; be capable of managing large projects; be comfortable working with diverse populations.
  • Prior experience working in higher education is preferred.
