Postdoctoral Position in Lacy Lab, Alberta Respiratory Centre (ARC) Research

Our laboratory investigates the mechanisms of intracellular cytokine trafficking and release from immune cells, and explores how these cellular processes contribute to allergic diseases (e.g., asthma and other lung disorders). We combine immunofluorescence with high definition microscopy (i.e., DeltaVision OMX Super Resolution Microscope coupled with structured illumination and automated colocalization) to colocalize immune cell compartments with specific cytokines. Cytokines are important immunological signals in allergic inflammation, and are targets of recently developed biologics for therapeutic treatment of asthma and allergic inflammation. The successful candidate will focus on the isolation, culture, and labeling of immune cells (e.g., human eosinophils, neutrophils, and epithelial cells) with specific antibodies, as well as apply transfection techniques using enhanced green fluorescent protein (eGFP) and other intracellular fluorescent markers.

We are seeking a Ph.D. in:

  • cell biology
  • immunology
  • biological sciences
  • or related backgrounds

Experience in the following is highly desired:

  • cell culture
  • microscopy techniques
  • immunolabeling

The ideal candidate should have an outstanding background in microscopy analysis of cells with a demonstrated publication record in this area. Communication skills, leadership potential, and the ability to work with a collaborative team are essential.

Applicants will be invited to apply for an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship award. For this reason, only applicants with permanent resident status or citizenship in Canada will be considered, and that have obtained their PhD within the past 2 years unless you have been employed in industry or had parental leave (see http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/Students-Etudiants/PD-NP/PDF-BP_eng.asp for eligibility criteria). Salary is commensurate with NSERC standard rates.

To Apply:

Interested applicants should forward a cover letter summarizing their current and future research interests, curriculum vitae, and the names, telephone numbers, and email addresses of three references by email to:
