Project Description

I am currently working on a large scale honey bee project, the BeeOMICS, involving six laboratories and institutes across Canada. This project was developed in order to facilitate and improve honey bee population in Canada, by helping beekeepers improve stock genetics. We are using a combination of field work collection data to assess traits of interest (such as honey production, hygienic behaviour, parasite level and winter survival) and molecular analysis (proteomics, genomics, bacterial diversity, viral infection levels). Our laboratory major contribution to the project is the development of protein markers to promote the reproduction of productive queens with a good resistance to diseases and parasites, and fitted to Canadian hash winters.
