Project Description

My reseearch focuses on the role of translation regulatory proteins in pediatric cancer development.  Translation factors and RNA-binding proteins such as YB-1, EIF4E are commonly highly expresed in childhood cancers such as osteosarcoma. Our research is based on the premise that high levels of these factors alter translation to allow cancer cells to tolerate hostile microenvironmental stresses such as nutrient deprivation and oxidative stress.  In targeting the pathways affected by these proteins, we may be able to selectively kill tumours that have grown dependent on these proteins for survival.
