Project Description

Nature-based decarbonization opportunities for the mining and forest sectors.
In the face of increasing challenges posed by climate change, it is crucial to explore innovative solutions for reducing and mitigating the effects of carbon emissions on a global scale. This project aims to conduct a scoping study of nature-based decarbonization opportunities for forested lands near Newmont Corporation’s mining assets in Canada. The goal is to document the extent of feasible solutions and assess their ranking based on key performance indicators. Using a systems-engineering approach, the project will design and implement a tailored landscape level optimization modelling framework that can be used to explore and analyze the mathematical solution space for the most promising nature-based decarbonization opportunities.
