SUMMARY

Respiratory Evaluation Sciences Program (RESP) is looking for a highly motivated post-doctoral research fellow in the area of clinical prediction modeling. The candidate will be supervised by Dr. Mohsen Sadatsafavi, MD, PhD within UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

RESP is embedded within Collaboration for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE), a growing academic unit bustling with productive students, thriving new investigators, and established senior faculty and mentors. The successful candidate will have an excellent chance of receiving salary awards from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR), or the Canadian Respiratory Research Network (CRRN).

The candidate will be working on developing state-of-the-art methodology in clinical prediction modeling, including novel uncertainty assessment method (Value of Information analysis), as well as Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence method for predicting the risk of adverse outcomes in respiratory diseases. This position is funded via multiple grants and international collaborative projects.

QUALIFICATIONS AND QUALITIES

The candidate should have excellent quantitative skills. Activities are generally on two fronts: in-depth analysis of data (e.g., clinical trials, electronic medical records) to develop cutting-edge models, and methodological research on uncertainty quantification for risk prediction models. Excellent scientific writing skills are also a requirement. Candidates with any background are welcome to apply, provided they can demonstrate they have the required skillset. Clinical knowledge of the disease area is not a requirement, as leading clinical experts guide such aspects of the project.

DURATION

The position is for one year but can potentially be extended upon positive evaluation of the candidate.
