This session is being offered in collaboration with MITACS Training (formerly Mitacs Step). Mitacs Training provides professional development training to advanced degree graduates, supplementing their education and research experience with the tools necessary to succeed in today’s workforce.

More than ever, organizational success depends on people working together - effectively. The pressure to communicate productively, quickly turn ideas into profitable action and consistently deliver results never decreases. Using team simulation exercises, participants work from a clear understanding of personal strengths and an appreciation of the differences in others will be the foundation of success in the future.

Workshop Objective:

To constitute an effective team, its members must share a common goal, have respect for each other, and be motivated to use the strengths of each member to achieve their objectives. Using team-based, hands-on, experiential learning exercises, the objective of this one-day workshop is to provide participants with an opportunity to build their ability and awareness participating in and leading an effective team unit that meet deadlines and see results.

Learning outcomes:

Through participating and completing this workshop, participants will: 

  • Discover the key steps and competencies to build an efficient and effective team
  • Learn how to manage the barriers that keep teams from performing
  • Be able to apply the best practice of teams into daily communication

Facilitator

Russel Horowitz

Russel is one of Kwela’s two founders and his expertise includes leadership development, team development, executive coaching, and training on a wide variety of topics. He has worked extensively as a leadership consultant / trainer since 2004 across a wide variety of sectors, including government, publicly-held, private and non-profit.  Russel’s experience also includes 14 years in the high technology/engineering sector, where he held management roles in product development, marketing, customer service and training. Outside of Kwela, Russel lives with his wife Gisele, his son Lucas and Magic the dog. When not working, he can usually be found outside hiking, biking, kayak fishing and growing vegetables.  He also has a keen interest in playing Brazilian music.
