The department of Microbiology and Immunology (M&I) is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to support a two-year funded project focused on the renewal of our undergraduate laboratory courses. Specifically this project (PUREs for CUREs) involves the creation, implementation and assessment of fourth year level Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs; Auchincloss LC et al. CBE Life Sci Educ. 13(1):29-40). This project will leverage teaching materials and associated capstone activities from an existing fourth year CURE in molecular microbiology as a platform to build an expanded suite of CUREs in a variety of disciplines including immunology, biotechnology, and environmental microbiology. The project will take place in four phases involving planning, course design, implementation, assessment over 2019- 2021. We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow interested in laboratory instruction, mentorship in undergraduate research, curriculum and course design, innovative teaching pedagogy, and scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) education research. Responsibilities would include teaching an undergraduate CURE laboratory, consultation and management of the PUREs for CUREs project, and working with faculty to design, implement and evaluate project outcomes with the goal of publishing in a leading educational research journal.
Candidates must have a PhD in microbiology, immunology, or a related molecular or cellular life science; the ability to develop and direct laboratory activities in the areas of molecular microbiology and relevant teaching experience at the post-secondary level. Experiences teaching in an undergraduate laboratory setting and SoTL research would be assets.
