Position Description

This position is an opportunity to work alongside the world’s best in paediatric health research and care.

Are you a dynamic and motivated individual who is eager to promote equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in one of the top paediatric health-care and research centres in the world?

Based within the SickKids Research Institute, we are looking for a Post-Doctoral Researcher to join our team, supporting equity, diversity and inclusion within the transformational research conducted at SickKids.

The Faculty Development & Diversity Office creates, implements, and monitors policies, plans and programs to promote diversity and facilitate inclusion within the SickKids Research Institute. The Post-doctoral Fellow, EDI, will analyze data using quantitative and qualitative methods and integrate their research to build a culture where all members of the SickKids Research Institute community feel valued, respected and validated. The successful candidate will arrive with a well-developed research portfolio and be a highly organized, motivated, and productive individual committed to embedding EDI best practice into scientific research, with the ability to engage in a wide spectrum of health research programs. This intellectually rich opportunity will grow EDI competency, enhance organizational culture, and enable excellence and innovation in the SickKids Research Institute.

Here’s What You’ll Get To Do:

  • Perform intersectional, multivariate analyses on collected data, to better inform workplace experiences and systematic frameworks in the research community.
  • Perform longitudinal sampling to inform a data-driven approach to assess workplace culture.
  • Apply for grant opportunities.
  • Publish relevant findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Embed leading edge EDI best practice in research methods, experimentation and laboratory settings.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of SickKids Research Institute Programs – integrating EDI in existing and emerging research areas, strengths, and needs.
  • Support the development of a diversity and inclusion focus across a broad range of pediatric health research programs.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • A PhD degree or equivalent in social sciences or life sciences. Candidates with an equivalent level of knowledge and experience obtained through other educational and work experience will be considered.
  • High level of proficiency in research design and data analysis using statistical software (SAS, SSPS, Prism) and open-source code (R Bioconductor) for quantitative analyses is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and obtain research funding from local, national, international and/or charity-based granting agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Able to organize, integrate and maintain complex data collected from various sources.
  • Experience working in an academic, healthcare, or research organization.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with researchers from a variety of disciplines, backgrounds and lived experiences.
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team.

Employment Type: Temporary, Full-Time (2 year contract)
