Job Summary:

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will assist the Principal Investigator, Dr. Alison Greig (Department of Physical Therapy) with a project within the UBC Flexible Learning Initiative (http://flexible.learning.ubc.ca/). The project is the West coast Interprofessional Clinical Knowledge Evidence Disseminator (WICKED), which has a project team comprised of representatives from Physical Therapy, Medicine (Undergraduate and Postgraduate) and Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy. Year 1 (Summer 2015 completion) will see the completion of five web-based, interactive, simulated learning modules which will educate multidisciplinary / interprofessional health students in the steps of evidence-informed health care (EIHC).The incumbent will work closely with Dr. Greig and a research assistant on:

Implementation of the modules across the health professional programs

  • Evaluation of the impact of the five EIHC modules on student learning of EIHC
  • Evaluation of user (student and instructor) satisfaction and student engagement with the EIHC modules.
  • Evaluation of the impact of implementation of the EIHC in the curricula of three health professional programs (Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and MD Undergraduate) on teaching and learning resources develop courses, disciplinary resources and curriculum.
  • Publication of research related to the WICKED project.

Organizational Status:

This role is located within the Department of Physical Therapy but will work very actively and closely with colleagues in other departments within the Faculty of Medicine which provide both undergraduate and postgraduate training.

Work Performed:

  • Communication with professional program leads and coordinators
  • Designing evaluations
  • Evaluating modules and implementation
  • Analysing evaluations
  • Writing for publication

Supervision Received:

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow position will work under general direction of the Principal Investigator. It is expected that the Postdoctoral Researcher will demonstrate the ability to work independently. The Postdoctoral Researcher will be required to problem solve on a daily basis.

Supervision Given:

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will supervise a Research Assistant.

Consequences of Error/Judgement:

The work of the Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be monitored by the Principal Investigator.  The WICKED project involves engaging with professionals from many schools / divisions / departments, and the incumbent is expected to work with efficiency and sensitivity.  Errors or incorrect decisions could compromise the quality of the project, and potentially impact the credibility of the project and the principal investigator.  The work of the Postdoctoral Researcher must be completed at a high level of confidentiality, accuracy, flexibility and efficiency.

Qualifications

Completed a Ph.D. within the last three years with emphasis in program evaluation and experience with both quantitative and qualitative research; excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, and a strong personal commitment to improving health professional education. Excellent oral and written communication skills. English fluency is a requirement. Experience in blended or online learning, developing educational resources and activities, and using SoTL to inform practice will be considered assets.   Ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment.
