The School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver campus invites applications for a 12 month position, 0.8 FTE at the rank of Post-Doctoral Fellow (PDF). The position may be extended for an additional year by mutual agreement and funding availability. Salary will be $45,000.00 per year.
The Men's Health Research (MHR) Program is a team of researchers and community partners advancing studies and interventions to reduce male depression and suicide, improve psychosocial prostate cancer outcomes and advance smoking cessation in fathers. The successful candidate will have a background in quantitative research and health intervention design as well as experience in online communication environments.
Working directly with Dr. John Oliffe, founder and lead of the MHR Program, the PDF will collaborate with the MHR team at UBC and the University of Melbourne, Australia. The PDF will lead analysis of survey questionnaire data drawn from military veterans and visitors to men's e-health resources focused on depression and suicidality, and psychosocial prostate cancer issues.
The focus will be on writing empirical peer reviewed journal articles to share the findings and make recommendations for adjusting a suite of men's health interventions. The PDF will lead the drafting of peer reviewed manuscripts in collaboration with MHR investigators. There will also be opportunities to co-author additional papers related to the analysis and research questions being led by other members of the research team. Grant writing, including CIHR and MSFHR project and PDF applications will be mentored as a means to extending the appointment and work at MHR, and bridging the successful applicant to a tenure track position.
Responsibilities will include:
- Independent analyses of survey questionnaire data
- Attending once a month, 1 hour research team and supervisor meetings
- Leading 4 academic papers
- Providing administrative, e-health and/or social media assistance as directed
- Assisting in supervising research assistants
- Completed (within the last 5 years) or near completion (with a confirmed defense date) of a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (e.g., gender, public health, communications/media, health sciences)
- Research record demonstrating quantitative research expertise congruent with career stage
- Demonstrated familiarity with and interest in men's health research
- Experience managing others and project management
