One in 3 Canadians over the age of 60 experience mobility limitations making it the most prevalent form of disability. The mandate of my research is to optimize mobility through the use of assistive technology and innovative interventions/education so that adults can fully participate in daily life.

As a Professor in the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational at the University of British Columbia and based out of the Rehabilitation Research Program at GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre, Dr. William Miller is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow for a 1 year position to join his research team. Potential areas of research focus could include: mobile Health; Mobility; Assistive Technology; Community Rehabilitation; and/or Health Services research.

The post-doctoral fellow will work independently within a larger research team at the University of British Columbia affiliated GF Strong Rehabilitation Research Program, oversee the projects, and mentor graduate students. His team currently has 1 Postdoctoral fellow, 4 PhD students, 4 pairs of Masters of Occupational Therapy students, and 8 research staff members. The successful candidate is expected to apply for competitive post-doctoral funding to support subsequent year(s) of the fellowship.

Qualifications and skills include:

  • PhD degree in health related research.
  • An excellent record of academic achievement, including peer reviewed publications, presentations and provincial/national scholarship awards.
  • Training / experience in a variety of methods (e.g., randomized controlled trial, mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative), knowledge translation (KT) methodology) will be considered.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and time management skills.
