Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Proteostasis

Posting Expiry

The laboratory of Thibault Mayor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver is looking for one motivated candidate for a postdoc position. The major focus of this research team is to elucidate how misfolded proteins are targeted for degradation by the ubiquitin proteasome system and how proteostasis is maintained in the cell. In particular, the lab is currently trying to investigate pathways that target for degradation proteins misfolded due to mutation linked to genetic diseases. This new project will be in collaboration with the laboratory of Mikko Taipale at the University of Toronto. The Mayor lab is funded by both the CIHR and NSERC and is integrated in the Michael Smith Laboratories, a well- equipped research facility providing stimulating grounds for scientific progress in an international, multidisciplinary research environment.

Candidates are expected to be a motivated team player who fits into a multidisciplinary research environment. Candidates should have recently or nearly completed their PhD, published at least one first author research publication in a peer-reviewed journal, and have a research experience in cell biology (microscopy, flow cytometry, CRISPR and/or RNAi), biochemistry (co-immunoprecipitation, protein purification), molecular biology. Background knowledge in the ubiquitin proteasome system or protein folding will be preferred.

Please submit your application to Thibault Mayor with a curriculum vitae (including scientific publications, posters and talks) and brief research statement interest for future work with a short summary of PhD work. The position is available from Fall 2018. Applications will be reviewed after August 24, 2018 and the position will remain open until filled.
