The UBC Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies welcomes the recent announcement of additional award funding for new PhD students and postdoctoral fellows recruited from abroad to study and undertake research at Canadian universities. Across Canada, the Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards (CIRTA) program will provide 600 doctoral scholarships ($40,000 per year for three years) and 400 postdoctoral fellowships ($70,000 per year for two years). UBC anticipates receiving approximately 35 and 20 of these new awards, respectively.
Details of the selection process are currently taking shape. In the meantime, prospective and incoming postdoctoral fellows who are currently outside Canada and who plan to undertake research in any of the eight priority areas listed below are invited to submit an expression of interest form to receive more information in January 2026.

- Advanced digital technologies (AI, quantum, cybersecurity)
- Health, including biotechnology
- Clean technology and resource value chains
- Environment, climate resilience, and the Arctic
- Food and water security
- Democratic and community resilience
- Manufacturing and advanced materials
- Defence and dual-use technologies
