Postdoctoral fellows receive Killam Research Prize

The Postdoctoral Fellows Office in the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies is pleased to announce the winners of the 2021 Killam Postdoctoral Fellow Research Prize. Both recipients come from the Faculty of Medicine. 

Dr. Laura Schummers is postdoctoral fellow at the Contraception and Abortion Research Team in the Faculty of Medicine’s Department of Family Practice. A reproductive and perinatal epidemiologist, Dr. Schummers completed her ScD in epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health. Her current research interests focus on reproductive and perinatal health. 

Dr. Hudson Reddon is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Division of Social Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine at UBC. He completed his graduate training at McMaster University and has been involved with substance use and addiction research since 2009. He is completing his fellowship with the BC Centre on Substance Use where he focuses on investigating potential therapeutic uses for cannabis among people with addictions to other high-risk substances. 

The Killam Postdoctoral Fellow Research Prize is awarded annually for excellence in research. Established in 2011, the Killam PDF Prize is in memory of Izaak Walton Killam and his wife, Dorothy Johnston Killam, who together created the Killam trusts. Two prizes in the amount of $5,000 each are awarded to fulltime Postdoctoral Fellows at UBC in recognition of outstanding research and scholarly contributions while at UBC.
