Project Description
Hao is a postdoctoral researcher in the School of Population and Public Health at the University of British Columbia. Hao’s research applies interdisciplinary methods combine epidemiological knowledge and economic valuation methods with high-resolution data to investigate the social costs of leading environmental risks. The results of her research provide economic justifications for policymakers to balance environmental conservation and economic development while advancing social equity and environmental sustainability.
Hao is deeply interested in environmental policies and their effectiveness at balancing economic growth with environmental sustainability. She is currently collaborating with Professor Michael Brauer at UBC. Her postdoctoral research explores the health cost of global air pollution from various sources such as energy, industry, and wildfires. She is also conducting cost-benefit analyses of clean energy policy to avoid substantial health damage associated with household air pollution worldwide, especially in African countries. In addition, she is a lead researcher in the UC Berkeley-Tsinghua and Duke University partnership on the health impacts of decarbonization of the power sector in China, California, and elsewhere.
