About this team

The Raw Materials Innovation team shapes, surprises and engineers delight into the future guest experience through raw materials innovation principles and material science. We go beyond the classic research and development methodologies into the realm of limitless possibility for both body and mind. We innovate new materials that didn't exist, we create new experiences for our guests that they didn't know that they wanted it. We get our guests altogether and engineer new sensations in our materials they've never experienced. We need you to work on short, mid and long-term projects by defining 'state of the art', leading research, building insight, generating unique point of view, creating prototypes and proving principles.

A day in the life

All of our interns play an important role in our business and are key members of the team. Some of the tasks, roles and responsibilities include:

  • Bring understanding of synbio technology to the business, educate your peers as well as leadership team on how a precursor like sugar gets converted to a monomer or polymer that can be part of our products or have a bioengineering a microorganism to help break down textile polymers?
  • Keep the team updated with latest and greatest researches in the field of synbio by actively reading and researching.
  • Scout new synbio technologies and companies, identify new Innovative technologies and products in Industry.
  • Support RM Innovation roadmap and lululemon’s BePlanet goals, build and bring in new ideas to make net new or current materials that are sustainable as well as functional, and Collaborate with acedemia and industry partners on executing our ideas.
  • Identification, validation, and testing of novel technologies and companies focused on synthetic biology, microbiology and microbial fermentation.
  • Engage with partner companies on projects to imtroduce innovation and improve sustainability across lululemon’s portfolio, as well as communicate projects and provide technical support to wider internal teams.
  • Actively participating in in cross-disciplinary meetings and our innovation projects with our scientists, designers, mainline teams and project partners to best integrate new technologies into existing workflows.
  • Contribute your strength to convert concepts into prototypes and successful products.
  • Partner with the material scientists and designers to support and deliver against key R&D initiatives.
  • Coordinate, set up and execute testing in lab and in field.
  • Coordinate all subject recruitment and manage them during testing.
  • Collate data in an organized and logical manners, analyze the data to uncover unique findings and correlations, and share your findings and insights with the research teams, mainline teams, industrial and academic partners.
  • Use our state-of-the-art equipment, to measure and interpret both subjective and objective data from our guests, garments, materials.

  • You have are a in PhD in biochemistry, microbiology, chemical engineering, or related discipline with a focus on the modification of biological systems for targeted molecular production, experience in biopolymers and textile polymers will be an added bonus.
  • You demonstrated experience of engineered microbial fermentation of targeted molecules and bioprocesses.
  • You have in-depth knowledge of bio-feedstocks for diverse applications.
  • You have hands-on experience with biopolymers design, synthesis, production, characterization and application testing.
  • You have strong inter-disciplinary communication skills for both written and verbal communication.
  • You have demonstrated strong interest in environmental and social sustainability and ethical practices within science and technology.
  • You have experience working as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • You can simultaneously manage multiple projects.
