Multiple Post-doctorate Fellowship Opportunities, Center for Research and Development of Functional Materials

Posting Expiry

The following Post-Doctorate Fellowships are available at the CDMF, Center for Research and Development of Functional Materials, founded by FAPESP (Sao Paulo Research Foundation). The CDMF main focus is to develop functional and nanostructured materials with tailored properties to solve problems related to renewable energy, health and the environment.

Interested candidates must send an e-mail to the correspondent supervisor with the following documents: 1) Letter of interest for this position; 2) Short CV containing academic degree, publications, and the documents showing expertise in the field and 3) two letters of recommendation. Information regarding the fellowship is available in http://www.fapesp.br/en/postdoc.

Professor Elson Longo

Opportunity 1: Development of perovskite solar cells.

It is highly desired experience in synthesis of CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite materials as well as experience with photovoltaic devices and techniques for its characterization, such as voltage versus current and quantum efficiency measurements. Additional experience on films deposition techniques which are involved in the preparation of solar cells such as reactive sputtering, atomic layer deposition (ALD), spin coating and dip coating are also desired.

Supervisor: Elson Longo, elson@iq.unesp.br.

Opportunity 2: Development of therapeutic substances produced by endophytic microorganisms alone or in association with nanoparticles as α-Ag2WO4.

This project aims to answer three major questions like: a) bioactive substances derived from endophytes can be purified and act as antimicrobials and/or antitumorals? b) These substances can be used to reduce/eliminate chronic and fatal diseases like leishmaniosis? c) nanoparticles can be incorporated with the bioactive endophyte substances or extracts in order to present enhanced results? It is highly desired experience in the mentioned area of research.

Supervisor: Elson Longo, elson@iq.unesp.br.

Opportunity 3: Development of a piezoresponse microscopy system for studies of ferroelectric materials.

For this purpose, ferroelectric thin films of perovskite type (ABO3) of the Pb1-xCaxTiO3 family will be prepared and characterized individually. In addition, all necessary instrumentation for research must be implemented in an atomic force microscope (AFM). It is high desired experience in AFM measurements.

Supervisor: Elson Longo, elson@iq.unesp.br.

Opportunity 4: Development, antimicrobial activity and cytotoxicity analysis of silver phosphate microcrystals (Ag3PO4).

Experience in synthesis and characterization of bimetallic oxides as well as experience in microbiological analysis against fungal and bacteria. Additional experience on development of multi species biofilms, cell culture and cell viability tests and assays in molecular biology are also desired.

Supervisor: Elson Longo, elson@iq.unesp.br.

Professor Mário Cilense:

Opportunity 5: The research project to be developed is based on a detailed study about the influence of the electric signal modulation on the gas sensor performance p-n junction devices based on 1D semiconducting nanostructures.

The major challenge of this work will be to build and characterize a new and sophisticated “3-in-1” gas sensor device (formed by the intersection of two crossed nanostructures) with a special design that allows to study simultaneously, in a single device, the sensor properties of three channels independently, and the focus will be understanding how to optimize their gas sensor response allowing for the development of new high-performance multifunctional electronic devices with potential to be used as chemical sensors.

Supervisor: Prof. Mário Cilense, mcilense@iq.unesp.br.

Professor Valmor Mastelaro

Opportunity 6: Development of Nanostructured Materials based on Graphene and transition metals oxides to be applied as toxic gas sensors.

The candidate should have a PhD in the area of physics, chemistry or materials science and a research experience in the areas of synthesis and characterization of powder and thin films nanostructured materials. Experience with deposition of thin films by Physical methods is desirable. Candidates must have be completed a doctorate no more than 4 years and demonstrate ability to generate scientific papers, having published at least two articles in scientific journals with peer review. In addition to the standard documents, candidates must send a research project up to 10 pages based on the proposed area.

Supervisor: Prof. Vamor Mastelaro, valmor@ifsc.usp.br

Professor Maria Aparecida Zaghete

Opportunity 7: Development of nanomaterials with perovskite structure to be used in energy generation, such as piezoelectric and photovoltaic.

In this project the perovskite materials will be synthesized as powders or films, and they will be analyzed by structural and morphological characterization. In addition, the performance of the materials/devices will be evaluated aiming good properties to be used in the field proposed. It is high desirable knowledge in synthesis of nanomaterials (powders and films), experience in materials characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) as well as basic knowledge in optical and electrical characterization.

Supervisor: Maria Ap. Zaghete, zaghete@iq.unesp.br.

Professor Adilson Jesus Aparecido de Oliveira

Opportunity 8: It is proposed to carry out a research and intervention project aiming to expand the potential and activities of scientific knowledge diffusion within the scope of the Center for the Development of Functional Materials (CDMF), through both the production of knowledge about methodologies of scientific knowledge dissemination and science education, as well as the accomplishment of products and processes in both areas.

Candidates shall have academic degrees and experience in the areas of Education and/or Communication, preferentially in this interface between science education and dissemination of scientific knowledge, as well as proven experience with both research inscribed in the theoretical and methodological framework of the project (action research, Educating Cities and CTS Education), as well as to scientific communication and dissemination. In addition to the standard documents, candidates must send also a portfolio of productions in any media and/or formats aimed at the dissemination of scientific knowledge and/or science education and an essay (up to 10,000 characters) on possible and desirable relations between scientific knowledge production and diffusion from the perspective of Educating Cities and STS relations.
