While at UBC, I will turn my doctoral thesis into a monograph and begin a new research project on Tibetan Buddhism, in particular on identity- and nation-building processes in eighteenth-century Bhutan. My Ph.D. thesis dealt with a very longstanding controversy on a specific Buddhist philosophical doctrine and meditative practices in one of the four Tibetan Buddhist schools. My research and teaching expertise cover Indo-Tibetan Buddhism and Tibetan and Bhutanese intellectual, political, and social history—particularly between the seventeenth and twentieth centuries.
