Update March 18: This session is currently full.

Whether you're looking for tips or advice on how to better file your taxes as a postdoc, or are new to Canada and need an overview of the Canadian tax system, this information session and Q&A will provide you with the information you need. The session comprises a 45-minute presentation and 45 minutes for Q&A with the facilitators. The session aims to address:

  • The general process for filing a tax return and individual responsibilities for filing a Canadian tax return
  • Eligible versus in-eligible tax deductions
  • International tax treaties
  • Paying taxes on international income
  • Scholarships/fellowships and bursaries
  • Tax exemptions

This session is designed to complement the hour-long info sessions offered by the Canada Revenue Agency. While there may be some information similar between both sessions, this session offers more opportunities for Q&A with tax professionals.

Please note that while we will endeavour to answer as many questions as possible, the information in this session is general tax information. Facilitators may not be able to answer questions that are very situation-specific or that may require additional information.
