What is happening?
Interdisciplinary talks from all areas of research
Postdoc Research Day gives postdocs and research associates from all fields the opportunity to showcase their research in presentations designed for a non-expert audience. This year’s event will include 15-minute full talks and 5 min lightning talks by postdocs affiliated with UBC on a wide array of topics. It's your choice if you want to give a full talk, lightning talk or are fine with either. Prizes will be awarded for the best talks.

Keynote lecture
This year's keynote lecture is given by Dr. Josef Penninger. He is going to talk about his experience in both academia and industry and his path to becoming the director of the Life Sciences Institute at UBC.
Industry career panel
A career panel discussion will feature former postdocs who have transitioned into a variety of jobs outside academia, including representatives from the local companies STEMCELL Technologies and Lumerical.
Postdoc Townhall Meeting
The UBC PDA wants to hear from you! As the independent organization working to represent all UBC postdoctoral fellows and advocate on their behalf, the PDA would love to hear about your life postdoc-ing! Should we have more coffee parties or pub crawls? Are you satisfied with your professional development opportunities? How about that extended benefits package? Come chat with the PDA exec team and help us prepare an advocacy agenda that represents you!
Anyone can attend Postdoc Research Day, so bring all your friends and colleagues! Only postdocs and research associates affiliated with UBC are eligible to present.

We absolutely encourage you to give a talk, as this is a great opportunity to present your research to a non-expert audience and of course - there will be plenty of prizes for the best talks!!

This year there is going to be full talks (12 min + 3 min for questions) and lightning talks (5 min). Lightning talks are a great way to practise your science communication skills (How to present your project in 5 min to a general audience) and are also a great option if you have just recently started your postdoc and don't have enough data for a full presentation. Please indicate if you want to present a full or lightning talk or either.
Abstract submission deadline is November 15!
We will notify you no later than Nov 20 if you have been selected to give a talk.
Attendance is free thanks to the PDA’s generous sponsors, the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, the UBC Vice President Academic, our event sponsor STEMCELL technologies, as well as our venue sponsor, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
