About the Role

Available for early 2023 start – a 3-year postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. Marlys Koschinsky at the Robarts Research Institute in London, Ontario. She is seeking an individual with experience in the areas of cellular biology and protein biochemistry to study the metabolism of lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)). Epidemiological studies over the past decade have established Lp(a) as an important causal and independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. However, fundamental questions remain surrounding the assembly of Lp(a) from its component parts (apo(a) and an apoB-containing lipoprotein particle) by the liver as well as its removal from the circulation. The project will involve determining the intracellular interactome and secretion dynamics of apo(a) and characterizing proteome and lipidome of the lipoprotein moiety of Lp(a).
Dr. Koschinsky’s laboratory is located in the Robarts Research Institute at The University of Western Ontario. Robarts is a world-renowned multidisciplinary translational research centre offering outstanding collaborative opportunities and high-quality core facilities. Western is one of Canada’s top research-intensive universities, and is located in the small city of London which offers an affordable, liveable, and picturesque locale.

Applicants should have PhD in biochemistry or a related discipline and a strong record of publications and the potential for research leadership. A competitive salary and full benefits package are available. For more information on this exciting opportunity, please contact Dr. Koschinsky directly at mlk@robarts.ca, and provide a cover letter including a short personal statement, a CV, representative publications, and the names of three references. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
