The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at Western University, invites applications for a probationary Teaching Scholar appointment, effective July 1, 2023 or as negotiated. This probationary appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor and will lead to consideration of continuing status and promotion to Associate Professor, Teaching Scholar at the end of the probationary period (maximum 6 years). The workload for the Teaching Scholar is 60% teaching, 20% educational scholarship, and 20% service. The successful candidate will be appointed in Kinesiology, Nursing, or Health Studies, depending on the applicant's area of scholarship and discipline. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in human anatomy or a related field. Additional postgraduate training in the field of Education will be considered an asset. Candidates are expected to have demonstrated excellence and varied experiences in teaching human anatomy, as well as enthusiasm for quality and innovative educational practices. Further, candidates will have demonstrated a track record of educational scholarship that includes (for example) curriculum development and evaluation; educational leadership; mentoring; presentations and scholarship on teaching or pedagogy; or research into the efficacy of different pedagogical approaches. Candidates may demonstrate evidence of their scholarship activities through innovation in methods that enhance student learning; creation and development of models of effective teaching; advances in the delivery of education in a discipline or profession; and engagement in the scholarly conversation via professional activity and publications. Ideally, the successful candidate will also have teaching experience in related fields such as neuroanatomy, histology, and functional / clinical anatomy. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated capacity to contribute substantively to an inclusive and diverse academic community. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and delivering dynamic functional human anatomy education, primarily at the undergraduate level, that is fundamental to anatomy curriculum across the Faculty of Health Sciences. This will entail the design of courses specific to the needs of Kinesiology, Health Studies, and Nursing. Principal duties will include the teaching of anatomy courses, and the development of specialized courses in the anatomical field that meet the emerging needs of the programs. These courses will be developed in consultation with School-based curriculum committees in the Faculty and will build a foundation of practical anatomical education. Candidates will be expected to fulfill service responsibilities within the School to which they are appointed, including oversight of anatomy lab facilities. The candidate is also expected to engage in educational scholarly activities that broaden the scope of their teaching responsibilities, and to share their expertise with colleagues. Support for educational scholarship is available through the Schools, the Faculty, and University. The University also offers programs to enhance teaching excellence through the Centre for Teaching and Learning.

The Faculty of Health Sciences is a large, diverse, and comprehensive unit.
