LOCATION: BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE), Vancouver, BC

JOB: Working under the Principal Investigator, the Research Associate will assist in the planning, development and implementation of research studies into medical cannabis in the context of HIV/AIDS.

ORGANIZATION: The BC-CfE currently employs a team of Statisticians, Programmers, Data Managers, Clinical Research Assistants, Data Analysts and Data Entry Clerks who work collaboratively on cohort-based epidemiological and clinical studies. The BC-CfE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS research centre including Research Laboratory, Clinical Trials, Drug Treatment Program, Epidemiology and Professional Education Programs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the direction of the PI, coordinates development, implementation, and maintenance of community and clinic-based research studies and projects; recruits subjects; collects data for existing and future projects;
  • Supports the establishment of new research projects through the drafting of research protocols, survey instruments, applications to research ethics boards and funding agencies;
  • Assists the Principal Investigator and research coordinators with various administrative tasks associated with the day-to-day operations of research studies and projects;
  • Arranges training, advice and support for different groups of staff;
  • May work closely with professionals in the community, and may be involved in creating publicity to promote research;
  • Provides information to and between a wide range of organizations and groups;
  • Supports, develops and evaluates strategies that encourage community participation in activities;
  • Carries out administrative work, which may include written correspondence, preparing submissions and reports, etc;
  • Performs other duties as required

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Nursing, Health Sciences, or related field;
  • Clear understanding of the research process acquired through both practical and academic experience;
  • Experience in organizing/coordinating research projects and/or grant-based programs, and supervising data collection activities;
  • Experience with reporting and communication systems;
  • Experience in preparing publications, documents, reports, and communication materials;
  • Experience in grant application preparation;
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite and Access database management; Word, Excel, database proficiency;
  • Knowledge of the principles of research design;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • An understanding of and sensitivity to diversity issues;
  • Excellent research skills, with an ability to analyze results;
  • Excellent project organization and implementation skills;
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
