POSITION DESCRIPTION

THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY within the School of Physical Sciences at UC San Diego (http://chemistry.ucsd.edu/ ) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body and invites applications for a search, for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Experimental Physical Chemistry, broadly defined. Areas of strong interest include Spectroscopy and Microscopy, Ultrafast Dynamics, Materials Chemistry and Physics, and Experimental Biophysics. Candidates must have a strong record of research accomplishment, an innovative research plan, and a demonstrated ability or potential for excellence in teaching. All positions are subject to availability of funding.

Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to develop a recognized program of excellence in both teaching and research. In addition, successful candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion in higher education. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to helping shape and expand the University’s diversity initiatives (http://diversity.ucsd.edu/). Teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels in general, physical, or theoretical chemistry are expected depending on candidate’s background and specialization. Ideally, the candidate will have demonstrated skills and interest in teaching lab and lecture courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

  • Applicants must have or be a candidate for a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field, and have teaching experience.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

  • Candidates must receive their Ph.D. before July 1, 2023
