Who we need:

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, the Director, Curriculum Design will lead and coordinate curriculum and instructional design initiatives at Yorkville Education Company (YEC). With an emphasis on student-centered, authentic, inclusive, and accessible learning in asynchronous and synchronous environments, the Director will promote transparency, collaboration, and innovation in curriculum development and renewal.

The successful candidate will work with members of the Learning Design team, faculty, academic deans, corporate staff, external partners, and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality curriculum and instruction that aligns with quality standards, meets the needs of learners, and supports the organization's strategic goals.

What you will do:

Curriculum Design Leadership

  • Provide leadership and guidance to academic and business units in the development and implementation of curriculum design initiatives, including course and program design, mapping, and adherence to quality assurance standards.
  • Oversee the design and development of face-to-face, online, and blended curricula for a growing suite of programs across a variety of credential-types, disciplines and audiences.
  • Develop and implement curriculum design frameworks and practices that support student-centred, authentic, inclusive, and accessible learning in asynchronous and synchronous environments.
  • Collaborate with academic leaders, faculty, and other stakeholders to ensure curriculum design meets the needs of the academic programs and is aligned with the YEC strategic goals.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in teaching and learning by promoting best practices in curriculum and instructional design.

Prioritization, Coordination, and Tracking

  • Coordinate resources, personnel, and processes to ensure that instructional design and course (re)development projects are completed according to established timelines, goals, and objectives.
  • Work closely with the Director, Digital Learning to plan, coordinate, and track the contributions of the eLearning and Digital Design teams to curriculum design and renewal projects.
  • Implement and maintain shared project tracking mechanisms to support effective communication among team members.
  • Monitor project initiation, progress, and completion and confirm contributions of external SMEs (including course developers) to HR and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Implement quality assurance measures to ensure high quality instructional design.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Communicate effectively with manager, staff, and stakeholders to promote transparency, collaboration, and innovation in curriculum and instructional design.
  • Collaborate with academic deans, program leaders, faculty, business unit partners, and other stakeholders to ensure curriculum initiatives are aligned with learning outcomes, meet accreditation requirements, and reflect best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Contribute to YEC committees and working groups as needed and assist in the development of practices, policies and protocols that promote student-centered, evidence-informed learning design.

Budget Development & Tracking

  • Assist in the planning and management of the budget for curriculum and instructional design initiatives, including informing resource allocation, procurement, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure effective, fiscally responsible utilization of resources in provision of services and completion of projects.

Staff Development & Direction

  • Recruit, select, train, and manage direct reports, and provide guidance to staff in complementary units (including, but not limited to, IT Services and the Library) working on ongoing and special collaborative initiatives.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging trends and scholarship in curriculum design, inclusive and accessible learning, instructional technologies, and online education.
  • Support staff in identifying and accessing high quality personal and professional development.
  • Motivate and support staff performance by communicating effectively, providing constructive feedback, and supporting staff with coaching and training.

What you bring:

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in a related relevant discipline education.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in curriculum and instructional design in a higher education setting, with evidence of progression in administrative leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of current trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in curriculum and instructional design.
  • Strong knowledge of current trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in inclusive and accessible instruction.
  • Familiarity with Canadian university systems, accreditation standards, and provincial regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading curriculum and instructional design initiatives, including project planning, implementation, and assessment.
  • Competency in the use key enterprise tools, including the Learning Management System, Microsoft Office Suite, Articulate, and the Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Excellent conflict mitigation and resolution skills when working with staff and colleagues across campus.
