About the Senate
The Senate, one of Canada’s most recognized institutions, is undergoing a modernization of its services in a concerted effort to enable greater openness, inclusivity and effectiveness. Fundamental to this modernization is how the Senate can enhance its procedural and legislative support to parliamentarians.
How will you contribute?
The Procedural Clerk acts as the chief procedural, administrative and information officer for the parliamentary service to which he or she is assigned (i.e. Senate Committees Directorate, the Chamber Operations and Procedure Office and/or the International and Interparliamentary Affairs Directorate).
You will be responsible for ensuring that parliamentarians receive expert non-partisan advice and information related to parliamentary procedure and practice. This strategic role is crucial in ensuring parliamentarians receive the required advice and logistical support to help them in their parliamentary functions. Given the nature of this role, procedural clerks are often entrusted with confidential or sensitive material.
Pre-selection Criteria
Essential Qualifications
- Successfully completed a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of study from a recognized university
- Experience managing projects including establishing timelines, budgeting and coordinating logistics
- Fully bilingual in both official languages (CCC), written, comprehension and spoken (English and French)
- Superior communication skills and significant experience providing strategic advice to colleagues and senior officials
- Experience in the interpretation and application of rules, regulations and policies
- Experience in using Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience providing procedural advice and administrative support; and
- Experience providing exemplary client service to the public and high-profile stakeholders
Asset Qualifications
- Experience working in a parliamentary environment or in close relationship with it
- Knowledge of the Rules of the Senate of Canada

Other
This job offers you the opportunity to travel and periodically rotate assignments into many exciting positions within the Legislative Sector. The successful candidate may be required to work irregular and/or extended hours occasionally.
Possibilities may also exist for secondment opportunities elsewhere within the Senate, within the Parliament Hill or a federal government department or agency.
