Research and Knowledge Mobilization Facilitator (Social Sciences, Humanities, and Health)

The Research and Knowledge Mobilization Facilitator is responsible for promoting growth in external research funding opportunities in the social sciences, humanities and health at the University, and for facilitating community-based knowledge mobilization initiatives in the region that will maximize the impact of university research on public policy and professional practice.

Reporting to the Director, Research Services, the successful candidate will work with faculty members, interdisciplinary research teams and centres, and Deans across the University to facilitate the growth of research and scholarship. The Research and Knowledge Mobilization Facilitator will explore opportunities for the advancement of research and scholarly work in the social sciences and humanities at Lakehead University as well as develop knowledge mobilization strategies that will increase research partnerships with Indigenous communities, NGOs and other community organizations the University serves. The Research and Knowledge Mobilization Facilitator will also provide leadership and advice on development of individual, multi-disciplinary, and multi-institutional research initiatives, identification of potential funding opportunities, and preparation of major collaborative funding proposals. This will include performing extensive background research on funding opportunities, writing and substantive editing of proposals, and customizing proposals for target audiences using a comprehensive understanding of the funding agency/group mandates, culture, and guidelines. The Facilitator will also lead the delivery of grant-writing, partnership development, and knowledge mobilization workshops. Experience with proposal writing would be considered a strong asset.

Job Requirements:

  • A Masters degree in the social sciences, humanities or behavioural sciences (a PhD would be an added asset), or have a combination of graduate education and 5 years’ related professional experience
  • Experience in an area related to research administration, project management, fundraising and/or proposal development would be an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Research, writing and copy-editing skills
  • Ability to deliver professional development workshops
  • An understanding of the principles and benefits of equity, diversity and inclusion within the research ecosystem
  • Ability to work in a high volume and deadline driven environment
  • Knowledge of project management principles, research policies, including regulations applicable to research with human participants and Indigenous peoples, grant writing strategies, external funding agency guidelines (i.e., SSHRC, CIHR, etc.)
  • Familiarity with MS Office, and on-line search engines
  • Ability and experience with building interdisciplinary teams with an aim to implementing projects or funding applications
  • Experience building community partnerships and facilitating knowledge translation would be an asset.
