Applications are invited for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellowship starting May 2021 (or as soon as a qualified applicant is selected) with the SphereLab team at the University of Montreal to contribute to two active intervention research projects: INTERACT and the impacts of the Réseau Express Métropolitain (REM). The position is a one year appointment, renewable for an additional year based on satisfactory performance.
INTERACT is financed by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and aims to evaluate the impact of urban interventions on health and health inequalities. The postdoctoral fellow will specifically work on the gentrification component of the project, which seeks to better understand the link between urban investments, gentrification, and population health in the Montreal region. The postdoctoral fellow will contribute to analytical work on the mechanisms linking revitalization, gentrification and health.
The postdoctoral fellow will also contribute to the research project on the impacts of the new Réseau Express Métropolitain (REM) on mobility, health and equity. This comprehensive longitudinal research project aims to measure the impacts of the REM on the health, social, environmental, economic, physical, and psychological wellbeing of Montreal residents, before, during and after its construction.
The successful candidate will work on both projects under the supervision of Dr. Yan Kestens and Dr. Ahmed El-Geneidy.
Primary Responsibilities
- Your responsibilities and duties in the Position will be:
- Modelling and analysing cohort data in relation to grant objectives
- Develop, analyse, write, and submit manuscripts for academic journals.
- Assist in project related tasks, including preparing reports and presentations for various stakeholder groups, participation in meetings and team activities, contributions to data cleaning decisions, documentation and analysis, support for ethics applications, development of grant proposals for health research and evaluation funders
- Assist faculty supervisor in guiding graduate students’ research
- Collaborate with team members to initiate new projects
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in epidemiology, public health, geography, social health sciences or equivalent. Applicants who do not have a completed Ph.D. at the time of application must include a letter from their Department Chair specifying the date of their dissertation defense.
- Strong understanding of biostatistics and epidemiological methods, and in particular causal inference methods.
- Strong data analysis/programing skills in SAS, STATA and/or R.
- Familiarity with GIS and spatial analysis methods a plus.
- Strong written skills in English, as written production will be key. Some knowledge of French (oral and written) preferred.
- Ability to work independently with occasional supervision.
- Demonstrated publication record in public health.
- Ability to take initiative, creativity, attention to details and commitment to producing high quality work.
Working Conditions
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the successful candidate will work remotely, until on-site options are authorized by the university. The supervisor will ensure proper access the necessary computer infrastructure.
Term
Funding is available for 1‐2 years but the fellow will be expected to apply to FRQS and CIHR for postdoctoral scholarships.
Salary
50,000 CAD/yr, to be negotiated depending on experience.
