Update February 28, 2023: Due to high interest in this session, we have extended the session time from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM to accommodate an extra hour of Q&A time with the facilitators.

Whether you're looking for tips or advice on how to better file your taxes as a postdoc, or are new to Canada and need an overview of the Canadian Tax System, this information session and Q&A will provide you with the information you need. The session comprises an hour-long presentation and two hours for Q&A with the facilitators. The session aims to address:

  • A brief overview of the Canadian Tax System
  • The general process for filing a tax return
  • Individual responsibilities for filing Canadian tax
  • Eligible versus in-eligible tax deductions
  • Scholarships/fellowships and bursaries, and tax exemptions

For a more broad overview of Canadian taxes, the Canada Revenue Agency Outreach team will also be offering info sessions on Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM, Wednesday, March 22, 2023 from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM and Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM . This session is designed to complement the hour-long info sessions offered by the Canada Revenue Agency. While there may be some information similar between both sessions, this session offers more opportunities for Q&A with tax professionals.
